Hello my loves,
I apologise that this post is going up two days late however it is still something I wish to talk about. March the 1st was Self-Harm awareness day. I feel like that day it wasn't talked about maybe as much as I would have liked to see, Especially in my local environments such as College. So you may be wondering why I am choosing to talk about this as it is slightly different from the posts I have been putting up recently. Well this is an issue that I feel people do not touch on enough. Yes we know that self harm exsists however we tend to sweep it under the rug as it seems to have been made into such a taboo subject. I have touched on this before in a different blog post which you can find here.
I typed into Google two things. The first was this:
SELF HARM IS:
The suggestions that came up were:
Self Harm is funny.
Self Harm is addictive.
Self Harm is good.
Self Harm is attention seeking.
I then typed in this:
SELF HARM MAKES ME:
The suggestions are as follows:
Self Harm makes me feel better.
Self Harm makes me happy.
Self Harm makes me feel tired.
Self Harm makes me feel alive.
I fear that people search about self harm to find out about it but go about it the wrong way. Now I talk from an outsiders point of view where I see what it does to other people. If you are self harming or thinking about it then this is what I have to say.
" You are loved. You may not feel like it and no I cannot speak for the situation you are in but you are loved. Remember to love yourself. Sometimes it is important to put yourself first because you simply need to. Put down what you use to self harm, think back to a time where you were happier. Whether this was when you were 4 or whether it was last week. Remember the genuine happiness that you felt there. This is what you need to strive for, every time you go to hurt yourself. Remember how insanely beautiful you are, even if no-one else sees it. You were made in Gods image and there is nothing more beautiful than this. Things will get better, whether you are reading this on your way to school or work or whether its 3am and your face is stained with your tears. This feeling you feel now will not last forever. Everything is fixable with a little time. Finally remember that there are people in the world that are willing to help you, if you cannot go to friends or family I am more than happy to talk to you. Whether annonymously or not, everybody needs somebody."
For those that have friends that self harm please remember that they are not doing it to seek attention, just by listening to them or helping them smile or laugh you are helping them to think more positively. I challenge you to go and tell every person you know that you love them. Even a simple smile to strangers or an I appreciate you to friends can make anybodys day brighter.
